I love the look of elaborate tablescapes with decorated place settings. But with all the other holiday expenses, I’m all about saving wherever possible. These cheap Christmas table settings from Dollar Tree are the answer!
Layers, Layers, Layers!
The trick to making great simple Christmas table settings is layers. But when each layer costs several dollars, it adds up incredibly fast. That’s why I started my cheap Christmas table settings shopping trip at Dollar Tree! With only a couple exceptions, everything I used in this post (including the dishware) cam from Dollar tree. Each piece only cost me a dollar or less (if they came in a package with more than one), and made stunning Christmas place setting ideas!
How It’s Done
When you’re putting together cheap Christmas table settings, there are two ways to go. You can match each setting or coordinate similar settings. So, I created several similar looks that coordinate well together. You can mix and match the ideas I put together or create your own combinations from these Christmas place setting ideas! It’s totally up to you.
I created a couple different simple Christmas table setting options, if you prefer only one plate or a layered plate look. You can mix and match the plates for all these cheap Christmas table settings!

Dreaming of a White Christmas
What you’ll need from Dollar Tree for these Christmas place setting ideas:
- Plates
- Green Garland
- White Snowflake Ornaments (3pk)
- Silver Snowflake Tea Light
The theme of these simple Christmas table settings is snowflakes! I wanted an option that wasn’t in your face Christmas and had a more neutral look.
The frosted white trees from my DIY Winter Decor Glass Trees post would look AMAZING as a centerpiece for these settings.
For the mini wreaths, I used Dollar Tree’s green garland and wrapped a double loop in the wreath size I wanted. Then I twisted the ends together and added it to the layers.
I created more layers with white snowflake ornaments and silver snowflake tealights. For the tea lights, you can go the obvious route and add a candle (Dollar Tree has great battery tea lights that are kid friendly and won’t catch anything on fire). But, I thought it would be fun to use them as a mini dish and fill them with candy for my guests!
A Place for Everyone!

If you are planning on having seating assignments for your holiday meal, these cheap Christmas table settings will be perfect! And they are so easy to make!
All I had to do was cut out paper tags and clip them to some greenery! For the third picture, I created the hanging tag with my Cricut machine. It’s probably my favorite crafting tool and you should definitely invest in one! I also laminated the tag because I knew it would take a thousand tries for my handwriting to be presentable! It also lets me keep the tags and reuse them for later projects.
I’m all about greenery, and the wired garland ties were so great! I loved the look of them and was able to cut them in half so I only needed one package for twenty four guests! The mini wreath I created by wrapping the garland like I mentioned earlier.
I do have a confession to make. While Dollar Tree does have a great wreath to layer under plates, the one I have pictured did not come from there. I made a supply run a couple days before posting this and totally forgot to grab the wreaths! And I didn’t have another chance before now to stop back at the store #momlife, am I right?! But I loved the concept and didn’t want to leave it out!
All Wrapped Up

Can you tell I was wrapping Christmas presents while working on these simple Christmas table settings?! I was so inspired by the classic ribbon wrapped look. I found burlap ribbon and folded it over the napkin.
And what present is complete without being topped off with a bow?! These happen to be PLASTIC! So, they keep their shape really well and are food proof. They also come in a pack of two so they’re perfect for these cheap Christmas table settings.
My mini garland wreaths made another appearance. I love the touch of green for Christmas place setting ideas.
Farmhouse Fancy

- Window Candlestick
Be still my farmhouse heart! I cannot get enough of these neutral colors and simple Christmas table settings.
While scrolling through Pinterest, I’ve noticed a trend for paper table clothes. I loved the brown paper look and had to create my own version. There are so many possibilities for it (especially if you have artistic skills). You could write on names or holiday messages. It’s also a great option if you don’t want to set out plates on the table.
I definitely did a little happy dance when I happened upon these adorable candlesticks! I loved the clean black and white look of them and as an added bonus they were cordless! There was no way I was going to shove them behind a window blind or curtain and never see them again.
The burlap ribbon made another appearance here but this time wrapped over the plate instead of the napkin.
I would have loved a black table clothe for some of these cheap Christmas table settings. But instead I was able to find black poster boards to use as place mats, and it may have turned out even better than the table clothe!

And because I’m a mom and always thinking of how to make things more kid friendly I had to include at least one coloring page in these cheap Christmas table settings! Let’s be honest, though, the adults would enjoy then too! It makes sitting around waiting for food a little less painful.
