Okay guys, I’m so excited for this post! I’ve done several interior design boards now. And in them I mention a few of my favorite interior design styles. So I thought it might be helpful to write up a quick post on what my favorite interior design styles are. And also give a quick overview of each of them. With some characteristic and common design elements associated with each.
Most of these interior design styles share a common thread. Which makes them great for mixing. But there are also unique aspects that make them their own. Take a look at my favorite interior design styles and let me know which are yours!
Interior Design Style: Rustic
The Rustic interior design style focuses on raw or unfinished elements with minimal processing or manufacturing. It incorporates design elements or features that are closest to their most natural state.
It has a very organic feel to it, making use of unrefined or rough textures. Elements such as fabric with a heavy weave pattern, natural wood, and an earthy color palette.
Do you prefer design statements that have a bold subtlety , with a focus on texture and detail? Then I would suggest starting with the Rustic style. Which also happens to be my very favorite!
Interior Design Style: Industrial
The Industrial interior design style is a nod to the trend of converting old warehouse or industrial buildings into residential use. It incorporates rough elements similar to the rustic design style with a metal, raw, or exposed feel.
Characterized by pieces that are more architectural than embellishment, it focuses on durability and performance over aesthetics. And uses a color palette that is more moody, dark, and masculine.
If you’re drawn to this style, you probably prefer an open or exposed space. With elements such as exposed brick walls, wood beams, duct work, plumbing, or large glass windows with metal framing.
Interior Design Style: Bohemian
The main characteristic of this style, are accumulated pieces. A story told by a collection of layers. Usually having organic elements, textiles, and patterns. It is a culmination of life experiences or interests.
The Bohemian style is often interpreted as being full of life or having a whimsical feel. Usually because of its story nature, vibrant color palette, and use of organic or natural decor.
If you prefer warm cozy spaces full of details, an elaborate color story, layered patterns, and large collections then the bohemian style is perfect for your home.
Interior Design Style: Modern
A Modern interior design style is very refined and polished. It incorporates a neutral or monochromatic color palette with little to no embellishment.
At it’s core, it is a minimal, clean design style that prefers streamlined simplicity. Rather than unnecessary or elaborate decor. It also incorporates metallic accents and stone features such as marble counter tops.
If your style tends toward clean lines, geometric shapes, a limited palette, minimal decor, and practical pieces you’ll feel right at home with a modern design.
Interior Design Style: Farmhouse
The Farmhouse interior design style is all about salvaged or handmade pieces, with a distressed authentic feel.
It incorporates natural elements, similar to the rustic style, but with specific farm theme pieces. Such as barn doors, woven baskets, bucket vases, repurposed architecture or other decor salvaged from farm life.
It also uses organic textiles, hand forged metal, distressed wood, and a base neutral white or beige color palette. It is a very humble and simple design style.
If you prefer aged pieces that are worn or full of history, or using farm items in a non-traditional or unexpected way, you will love the farmhouse style.
