If you prefer moody spaces with darker elements, this is the interior design board for you! Many of my inspiration boards have a light or neutral color palette, so I wanted to put together one that had a bit of a darker side. And I’m definitely loving it!
The Colors
Okay, so because the other design elements are pretty dark, I wanted to keep our paint samples light. It will help balance or soften the space when necessary. For this interior design board, I chose a light grey and a white.
The Textiles
Next up is textiles! I wanted a good variety that would compliment and coordinate with the colors of the interior design board. From top to bottom, I went with a dark heather grey, an off white heavy weave, and a taupe leather.
Finishing Touches
So I refer to this section as finishing touches, because I’m not sure what else to call it. But usually, it ends up having the most foundational elements of the interior design board in it, like flooring or tile.
Speaking of tile, I went with two options in my favorite contrast, black and white. A beautiful black marble rectangle and a white (hmm I’m not sure what that shape is called). Actually, the white tile came in a mosaic sheet but I separated it into a single piece so you could see how well it stands off the black!
I also added a silver door pull and dark green dried natural eucalyptus. Which happens to be my current obsession in greenery right now.
Finally, I chose a very dark wood sample. It still shows the grain really well and helps add organic movement to the board.
Possible Designs
Are you already picturing this interior design board in a space?! Or maybe you love it but you’re not sure how to put it together? Well, here are some ideas I had.
Interior Design Board: Kitchen
Okay guys, you know how much I love my kitchen designs! And this one is gonna be amazing.
Starting with the flooring, let’s go with the black marble. I would love to see it installed in a chevron or herringbone pattern to give some character or interest to the space.
Next up, let’s start with our lower cabinets and choose something in our dark wood sample. And follow that up with upper cabinets in our white paint color.
Incorporate the white tile mosaic in the back splash below the white cabinets. This will blend the two elements together and give it an elevated look. Keeping the top portion lighter also makes a space seem more open or larger, if you’re working in a smaller room.
Because we are going for a more moody space, I would definitely go with grey on the walls here. And add in our silver door accessories to finish it off!
Interior Design Board: Dining Room
Next up, let’s move to the dining room! Because they coordinate with the kitchen, I would stick with the black marble floor. If you’d like to be a little more budget conscious, there are some great faux marble laminate options available that would also be a great choice!
Now let’s talk furniture. Dining rooms don’t often have cabinets. However, they do have tables and sometimes even hutches for display or storage. For this space, I would love to find a dark wood table with a matching hutch to pair together. They would add the drama and moodiness we are going for in our interior design board.
To go with the table, I would choose upholstered chairs in our taupe leather textile. Then also incorporate white serve-ware inspired by the white tile. And linens similar to our off white textile.
Finally, paint the walls white to let you’re wood pieces be the dramatic focal point. And layer with curtains in our heather grey textile.
Interior Design Board: Bathroom
With tile this beautiful, I couldn’t resist a bathroom design. I would start off with the flooring in our white tile mosaic.
For the shower, I would go with our black marble. I don’t know about you guys, but for some reason I prefer darker showers more than lighter ones.
Next, I would go with grey on the walls again.
For the vanity, I would want something very specific in our dark wood sample. Something very minimal and open like a floating counter with a modern white basin.
