Hey again, it’s time for another interior design board! Recently, I’ve put together boards with a more modern design. So for this board, I wanted to go for a little more traditional or farmhouse look.
I chose elements that have a rustic appearance to give an aged or weathered feel. If you’re a fan of a cozy distressed design, I’m sure you’ll love this board!

The Colors
I decided to go with paint colors that are very neutral and clean to balance the more weathered pieces of our interior design board. There is a beautiful white option (you know how much I love white walls!), and a light grey color.
The Textiles
For the textiles, I went with very organic options that will help add life to and soften the space. It also helps add a level of comfort to any living spaces designed around this inspiration board. From top to bottom, I chose a taupe faux leather, a white cotton, and a greenish grey upholstery.
The Details
The finishing touches of this interior design board are where I incorporated the rustic elements. I chose a weathered wood sample to give a worn or rustic feel to the space. Then I added a natural slate tile.
Even though I want it to have a rustic quality, I don’t want it to go too far and end up looking dated or dirty. Which is why it’s important to balance rustic elements with more modern pieces. Enter, our grey hex tile! It coordinates with all the other neutral tones, and gives the board clean edges for a modern look.
I also included a black door pull that has a great farmhouse look to it, but in a modern black matte color.
Possible Designs
Now that we’ve talked about each of the elements involved and how they work together in this inspiration board, let’s put together a possible room design around them.
Interior Design Board: Living Room
This board felt so cozy and inviting to me, that I had to make our first design a living space. For this living room, I would start by installing a wood laminate floor in the beautifully weathered style of our sample.
Next, I would paint the walls our grey paint color. Then incorporate our slate tile in a floor to ceiling fireplace feature. For a more modern look, you could have it installed in a herringbone or chevron pattern.
Finish the space with accessories such as a couch in our light green upholstery, side chairs in our faux leather option, and white curtains to keep the space light and airy.
Interior Design Board: Bathroom
Another great space for this board is a bathroom design. Usually a smaller space, the light colors of this board will make the room feel larger. And because it’s a smaller space, you can get away with a more expensive option for the floor. So let’s go with our slate tile!
Next I would use the grey hex tiles for our shower. Then paint the walls white so that our darker grey tiles draw your eye and become the focal point.
Finish the space with a vanity in the grey paint color, a modern white sink bowl, and floating wood shelves! I think it would be great to get our pop of black in with any lighting and sink fixtures.
Interior Design Board: Bedroom
Okay, I’m going back to the cozy feel because I just can’t get enough of it from this board. So let’s try a bedroom design. Starting with a wood floor and white walls.
Followed up with a black spindle bed frame, paired with bedding in our grey paint color. Add additional pillows in our other textiles, and a rug inspired by the light green upholstery.
Check out some of these pieces I found to get the look of this board in your home!
