Have you been thinking about more interior design boards?! Oh wait, maybe that’s just me. But if you were too, here’s a new one for ya!
For this board, I decided to go a more modern route. With a minimal color palette, black accents, and a little marble this board will make any modern interior heart swoon!
The Colors
Because the color palette was minimal, I wanted a good variance. So I went with a light grey, a white, and a medium/dark green color! The first two coordinate with the other board elements. While the green adds a little personality and interest.
The Textiles
A grey scale is very characteristic of a modern design. So I carried that over into our textile options. There’s a very simple light grey solid textile. Paired with a darker heather grey. Neither will draw too much attention, but both add some softness to this interior design board.
Finishing Touches
For accents, I went with a slim modern black door pull. It’ll keep things clean and minimal, and stand off the other colors nicely.
The tile I went with is a large rectangle marble finish. It’s not genuine marble so it gives you the look without the giant price tag.
Then I ended up choosing two laminate floor options. The first is a slate stone style laminate. The second is a light natural wood tone. Don’t take these elements too literally. It’s the look that we are going for in the interior design board. So feel free to get creative with them, and make interpretations or adjustments where necessary.
Finally, I ended up choosing a dark green dried eucalyptus branch. I love the way the dark green pops off of the white features. Live plants also add softness and life to a space. But if you’re working in a room with little light, dried natural stems like this are perfect!
Possible Designs
Now that we’ve talked about the pieces, let’s start putting some rooms together!
Interior Design Board: Kitchen
As you guys have probably guessed by now, kitchens are one of my favorite rooms to design. I wish I could say it’s because I spend so much time in them myself! But I’m definitely no chef.
For this kitchen, let’s start with the floor and use our black slate option. You can use real stone tile or the laminate shown in our inspiration board. Both are great options and will give you the look we are going for.
Next up is cabinets. Go with our wood sample, but be sure to get them in a modern clean line design that will give the feel of the board we are going for. And add our black door pulls to finish the look.
For our counter top, I would choose a darker option to coordinate with our slate element, and contrast off the lighter ones.
Speaking of lighter elements, now is a great time to talk about the marble! Since we have a tile sample in this interior design board, why don’t we use it as a back splash feature. That will allow it to be predominantly visible as a feature of the room.
Finally, I would go with our light grey paint sample for wall color. It keeps it in the modern color palette, and helps add depth with layers.
Interior Design Board: Dining Room
When it comes to a dining room, I can’t resist a wood floor! Actually I love wood floors in almost any room, but I digress.
Because a dining room usually coordinates with a kitchen, let’s go with the same grey paint color on the walls.
You can’t design a dining room without including a table. Since we probably wont be able to incorporate our marble tile in this space, let’s go with a white table here.
And no dining table is complete without chairs! For our design, I would choose some modern black chairs that will contrast with our white table and coordinate with the grey walls to finish our modern grey scale.
For finishing touches, we can incorporate our black accessories with a black chandelier and wall frames. Then hang some heather grey curtains. And add a vase of eucalyptus as a centerpiece.
Interior Design Board: Bathroom
Bathrooms are probably my second favorite spaces to design. Often they get overlooked because they are smaller spaces or don’t seem to get a whole lot of use. Especially master baths that are only used by a handful of people.
But I like giving these spaces a little extra attention. These are the rooms where I start and end my day. Where I prepare myself for everything ahead of me. And all you other moms know, that sometimes the bathroom is you’re one place of retreat through the day!
So for this place of retreat let’s go all out! Starting with the floor, I would go with our slate laminate option (or a stone tile if you prefer). Next I would take our wood sample and find a light natural wood finish vanity. If your bathroom is large enough, consider some built in cabinetry to take advantage of our beautiful wood and also create some storage space.
Let’s keep the wall color for this room really light and airy, and go with our white paint sample. It will contrast the dark floors and make the wood elements stand out even more.
Okay, now that we have the floor, walls, and cabinets done…..I would love to see everything else in our amazing marble tile! That’s right, I said EVERYTHING else. It creates an emphatic feature to the space without overwhelming it. Plus marble is a great design choice that keeps a space feeling clean and modern. You could use our marble tile on the tub insert walls, shower surround walls, as a walk in shower, or even a vanity back splash. If you’re really loving the marble look, you could even carry it over onto the vanity counter! Like I said….EVERYTHING.
To finish it off, include some grey towels, a glass vase with our dried eucalyptus on the counter, and a black framed mirror.
