Statement Party Decor on a Budget

Oh no, say it ain’t so!!! My baby turned five already? I’ll take any excuse to put my party decor skills to the test, but this mama shed a few tears with this one.

Once I was able to pull myself out of an emotional puddle, I realized that throwing a party while being 35 weeks pregnant wasn’t going to be an easy test! I was huge, slow, and easily tired. But that didn’t dissuade my party decor ambitions!

So, I did what mamas do best, and worked with what I had. Here are some of the super easy Statement Party Decor on a Budget pieces that I used to make a big impact with minimal effort.

Plastic Table Clothes

STOP!!! Before you push the back button because “clearly this isn’t going to be a helpful post, if her first tip is plastic table clothes.” Let me just say that they are incredibly versatile! I used them on the table, yes. But they also make great backdrops that draw the eye toward a centerpiece or away from anything undesirable.

You can get incredibly creative with them, and use them for sashes, banners, ribbons, shadow boxes, etc! There’s a million ways to use them besides just laying them over a table, and SUPER SUPER cheap. If you still don’t believe me, check out Plastic Table Clothe DIY on Pinterest and be inspired!

Tissue Pom Poms

While I was tempted to try out the first tip and make plastic table clothe pom poms, I ran out of time and opted to purchase the pre-made tissue version. They are still reasonably inexpensive, and have a great effect! Use them to fill an empty space, frame a table, or add volume!

Gold Number/Letter Balloons

I cannot get enough of these!!! I was a little disappointed at the time, because I waited until the last minute and the store didn’t have the ones I wanted available. Lesson learned! Even just having one, makes a big impact. Get creative, spell names or words, use numbers for birthdays. They are a great POP for any design.

 

Banners

This is another incredibly easy option. You can buy pre-made banners like I used, or get inspired and make your own. I considered cutting triangles for a flag banner, or making tassels (from plastic table clothes!!). If you have the resources available, you can use paper cutting tools like a cricket machine to make letters or shapes for your party decor.

 

Wrapped Boxes

There are a couple directions you can go with this.

Because of time and energy restrains, I wrapped up the gifts we had purchased and used them to fill table space. This would work better for larger boxed gifts, but any box can be stacked and layered to look nice.

Empty boxes are a pretty available resource that can be transformed with a little paper and glue. You can go super simple and only use paper and cutout letters to create a word pillar. Or, get incredibly elaborate and create props like trains, arches, treasure chests, monster heads, or shipping crates!
